I just watched a video of Ajahn Brahm being interviewed by a local tv reporter & I learn something about secret of happiness.
There are two examples being mentioned.
Firstly, an example about a cup of tea.
The longer a cup of tea is on hold, the heavier it will become.
After a minute our arm might started to ache
After 3 minutes, it will be in pain.
After 10 minutes, it will be in agony.
But if we put down & pick it up again a minute later, it will feels so much lighter.
The point is that when things are too heavy to bear, just put it down. It's best to wait until the right moment when we are ready to face it up again, & by the time it surely feels so much lighter & solutions will come up themselves.
Secondly, given an example about a story when Ajahn was still a kid. He owned a mini bicycle when he was 10. He was so afraid to falling off that he grabbed the bicycle handle until his palm was white & he was so stiffed that he got falling off his bicycles for so many times because he was so rigid of fear. But when he learned how to relax, he didn't fall off anymore.
The lesson implied is that when we learn how to relax in life & not be afraid of falling off then we tend not to fall off.
In conclusion, being relax is all we need to pursue a real happiness according to Ajahn Brahm.
We live in a world full of critics that sometimes discourage us & making us down. We have 2 choices here, either to be discouraged or be determined and follow our faith. The choice is all ours.
I would surely choose the latter one. Which one would be yours?
